10 Principles for a Great Leader

18 Jun

I have spent countless hours in leadeship seminars (mostly when I was in direct sales). I have read books and watched movies about leadership. And I have been extremely blessed to work with some awesome leaders! I want to share 10 principles that seem to be a common thread when anyone discusses leadership. I recognize these principles in community leaders and business owners that I admire.  Do you recognize any of them in yourself?

GREAT LEADERS …

1. LEAD BY EXAMPLE.

Take responsibility for your actions and put in your time. People respond well to leaders who lead effectively because they understand where their followers are right now. And they listen.

2. ARE BIG THINKERS.

Allow yourself to dream. Imagine any and every great possibility for yourself, your business, your project, etc. Don’t forget to write it down.

3. USE OBSTACLES AS STEPPING STONES.

Don’t deal with the same problem over and over. Deal with it. Accept the truth.

4. CREATE A GREAT CIRCLE OF INFLUENCE.

It has been said time and time again: You are like the 5 people with whom you spend the most time. Who is in your circle?

5. TREAT OTHERS AS THEY WANT TO BE TREATED.

Put good things in the lives of others. Say Thank You.

6. SEE GREAT POTENTIAL IN OTHERS.

Praise others to success. You may be the only person telling them that they are doing a great job.

7. KNOW THAT FAITH IS BIGGER THAN FACT.

Having faith doesn’t mean disregarding facts. Acknowledge the facts and still believe in the vision even when facts don’t line up. Refer to 2 Cor. 5:7 for we walk by faith, not by sight.

8. AREN’T AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP.

Not knowing how to do everything is okay. Find the experts that know what you don’t and work with them.

9. GET BACK UP WHEN THEY FALL DOWN.

Champions don’t always win but they always finish the race. Be happy to fail. It means that you are doing something, not standing in the corner doing nothing.

10. HAVE A GREAT ATTITUDE.

A great community leader I met today said, “I create my own reality and then live it.”

Faith and Family Night with Silver Stars

17 Jun

Last week, the WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars hosted their annual Faith and Family Night.

The Christian Women’s Small Business Association was invited to hold the American flag on the court during the National Anthem. Our leader Anna brought us sashes and crowns to wear as we are the daughters of a King. Thanks Anna! You know how to make us feel special.

My new friend Coach Liz and I are excited before we walk on the court.

After much practice we made it on the court to proudly hold the flag during the National Anthem. What an honor!

I really wanted a photo holding the Stars Squad pom-poms but they were generous enough to have the whole squad take the photo with me! Thanks Jessica for not letting me leave until we got this shot 🙂

We watched the game and the STARS won 80 – 67. Way to go Silver Stars!

What a great way to celebrate our founder’s birthday. Happy Birthday Anna!

After the game Mark B. Spencer and the Greater Love Praise Team led worship in an intimate setting.  Sophia Young, #33 on Silver Stars player shared a little bit about what it is like to be a Christian in the WNBA.

It doesn’t matter if I have a great game or a terrible game. He is always gonna be there for me. That’s the great thing about a relationship with Christ. -Sophia Young

Sophia then introduced former University of Texas quarterback, current Cleveland Browns quarterback and self-professed Christian, Colt McCoy.  His message was about finding contentment as believers. He asked the audience if everything was taken away, would Jesus be enough?

The most important thing in our life is our relationship with Christ. … So I pray tonight for all of us in our walks in our everyday life that we would be able to find that place that we could operate in contentment knowing Jesus is in control. -Colt McCoy

You can see the After Game Worship and Testimonials on the Silver Stars website.

The whole night was full of friends and FUN! Thanks Silver Stars for keeping this tradition and thanks Anna for organizing this event for CWSBA !
